In 1996 I had the opportunity to learn the craft of egg artistry and I soon became very passionate about it. To be able to create an exquisitely delicate thing of beauty out of a common egg both fascinates and enthrals me.
My Heirloom Eggs are created from a variety of real eggs; duck, goose, emu and ostrich. The egg is blown, cleaned and then painted with many coats to harden the egg. The egg is then designed and cut according to a chosen style. The shape of the egg generally dictates the style of cut and decorating.
Because the symmetry of every egg is slightly different in shape or size it is difficult to create an exact replica, however, when required an almost similar egg can be created.
Each egg is individually designed and handcrafted from start to finish. I use my own ideas and creative ability to design and craft the exquisite egg in a style that is unique to me.
The ostrich egg with its beautiful natural dimpled cream colour and the emu egg in a natural green avocado colour are too nice to paint over so I keep them to what nature makes them. However there is one exception and this is the Rugby Ball I make from an emu egg and I paint this white.
Some of the Heirloom Eggs are a one-off which allows the owner to have a truly unique Heirloom Egg. I have fashioned my own lock on doors of some of the eggs to keep securely closed. You will note too that not all eggs have a 'treasure' inside them as the owner may wish to place their own prized possession or so inside.
There is a limited edition on the eggs and all Heirloom Eggs come with a certificate of authentication and the limited edition number. I very much enjoy creating Heirloom Eggs as they are such a thing of beauty and I wish to share them with people who appreciate this.
